We aim to deliver an exceptional menu of the highest quality produce, with innovative dishes and traditional classics. Cooked with care by our award winning chefs. All of our food uses the freshest seasonal and local ingredients.

We are very proud of the accolades and awards we have received. From the Good Food Guide, Taste of the West Gold Accolades to 2 Rosettes four years running and our 4 Star AA Rating, our hard working and enthusiastic team always strive to ensure we are serving and delivering the best.

We serve a modern, British à la carte seasonal menu that changes monthly. We are all passionate about the provenance and quality of our largely local ingredients. We believe in great service and serve high quality, local food – food with a genuine story. We’re proud to partner with some of the most ethically and morally minded farmers in the area, each of whom champion exemplary levels of animal welfare.

For our business, we define “local” by food miles:

  • Our beef (Aberdeen Angus/Devon Ruby Red Cross), pork (Large Whites) and lamb (Horn Cross) are all grass-fed. The abattoir is located close to the farms (e.g. only 2 miles from the farm where we procure our beef), which makes for a less stressed animal and, by extension, better quality of meat. In total, the food miles for these animals (from field to fork if you will), is only 23 miles.
  • Our poultry (chickens and ducks) and eggs are sourced from award winning free range farms in Crediton (<40 miles) and Bude (<30 miles)
  • Our game comes from Crediton, where it is sourced within a 15 mile radius of the fantastic butcher, MC Kelly (<50 miles)
  • Our fish is sourced and landed in Ilfracombe, Devon (<25 miles), Appledore (0 miles!), Brixham, Devon (92 miles), and Newlyn, Cornwall (102 miles).
  • Our coffee is sourced from speciality roaster Origin in Porthleven Cornwall (<85 miles)
  • Our bread and pastries come from East West Bakery in Barnstaple (13 miles)
  • Our fruit and vegetables, where possible and in season, are sourced from local farms in North Devon, including Hedden’s in Bideford (<4 miles) and Cornborough Farm in Abbotsham (<2 miles)
  • Why not stay with us? Come and enjoy a coastal break and breathe in the fresh sea air of Appledore. Stay in one of our four rooms at the Royal George, or book one of our six newly renovated rooms at the Sailors Rest, our accommodation-only, Grade II listed building located on Appledore Quay, overlooking the estuary, in the heart of the village.

Christopher Piper Wines

Christopher Piper Wines was established in 1979 by Chris Piper (Chairman) after working in Beaujolais, as a wine-maker in Brouilly.

In 1980 he was joined by his old friend John Earle (Managing Director) and the business flourished.
From those early days when the two friends did virtually everything, from wine buying to selling, packing and delivering their wines, the company has now grown to become one of the West of England’s best known independent wine merchants, now employing 20 people, and delivering with their fleet of vans all over the West Country and beyond. Chris still manages to make wine in Beaujolais every year at Chateau de Vaux, and, yes, they sell it.
The philosophy with which Chris Piper and John Earle started their business is still enshrined in the company’s ethic: Top quality products backed by top quality service.
Although our principal business is the supply of top quality wine to independent hotels, restaurants and pubs throughout the South of England we have an ever-increasing number of private customers, purchasing via their excellent website.

Claire Roberts joined the CPW team in 1995 having worked as a chef in Burgundy, France and Australia, but more recently having followed  her passion for wine by working at Oddbins, where she gained the WSET Diploma.

She specialises in food and wine pairings for her trade customers, advising some of the West Country’s top restaurants.

Wonky Horn

Wonky Horn is the new name for Westcott Organics.

Things have been progressing on the farm since our first longhorns arrived back in 2015.  Since then my family and I have farmed 250 acres on the edge of beautiful Exmoor on our family farm, Westcott Farm. As well as farming chickens, large black pigs and Exmoor Horn lamb, we have a prized herd of over 100 Longhorn beef cattle, which graze on the grasslands of this part of rural West Somerset. All of this is now processed in our on farm certified organic butchery.  The animals are taken to a certified organic abattoir and then once aged are brought back to the farm to be processed by our master butcher. This short journey of less than 25 miles means minimal stress to the animals whose welfare is at the heart of everything we do.We only supply our own products which makes us pretty unique. You know when buying produce from the Wonky Horn you have complete traceability from farm to table, with the knowledge that the animals have been raised and cared for with the highest levels with the best welfare and dignity that they could have had.Over the years we have built up many loyal customers.  You can  buy from our butchery shop on site and we also offer a mail-order service.

Loyton Lodge & Safari Tent are set in the heart of Loyton Farm, expanding over 280 acres in the heart of North Devon.

Originally a dairy farm, the land is now used throughout the year for various sports and farming.

The Safari tent (or as its well known as ‘the party tent’) is a purpose-built venue for supper clubs, dinner parties, weddings, and events.

Here at Loyton we like to make use of our surroundings and are often found foraging for wild berries and pines for our expansive cocktail list or searching for wildflowers to use in our displays.

Sitting on the edge of our golf green, the tent has expansive views, lots of walks and even a river to splash in-

the perfect setting for summer weddings and winter feastings.

Alongside the safari tent, Loyton Lodge caters for up to 20 people over 10 bedrooms with a large dining room, bar, sitting room and billiard room; so, plenty of options to choose from!

Head chef Barrie Tucker started his career at the Castle Hotel, Taunton under the guidance of Phil Vickery,

and a career highlight at the triple Michelin starred Chez Nico with the legendary Nico Ladenis and more recently Luttrell Arms in Dunster.

Now very much based in West Somerset and Exmoor, Barrie champions locally sourced ingredients and beautifully presented food from his menus.

He now runs the kitchens at Loyton Lodge & tent, using the best local produce available alongside his foraging finds.

With a wealth of experience, knowledge and local influences, Barrie has been creating bespoke menus for our guests, running cookery workshops, and managing the team here at Loyton for the last year.

The team are looking forward to the spring and summer seasons and what produce and inspiration that will bring.
