Meet Horner Farm

We are Horner Farm, a small family farm with a large vision to showcase positive model of farming while producing sustainable produce from our farm. We took over the farm tenancy in February 2018 so we are still at the very beginning of our journey.

We farm with nature by rebuilding diversity using regenerative farming techniques. A healthy soil leads to a healthy ecosystem for our livestock, environment and local community. We are building a carbon negative business ensuring our farm has a positive impact on our environment.

We produce Beef, Lamb, Hogget and Kid Goat focusing on allowing our livestock to grow at their own pace not feeding grains to push for results but allowing the livestock to browse and graze utilising nature’s diversity while focusing on slow growing native breeds to achieve a beautiful flavour and texture.

We host three seasonal feasts a year to showcase and celebrate local seasonal produce. The farm courtyard opens for woodfired pizza every Friday evening from May, where you can relax with friends in an informal setting while enjoying pizza with seasonal toppings.

Our Winter Feast is the 22nd of February and will be £35 a head including the first drink followed by 3 courses showcasing seasonal produce.  

Horner Farm will be having a stall at the Taste Exmoor Food & Drink Fair on 29 Feb/ 1 March 2020 at Porlock Village Hall.

Bake Me Crazy

Hello! We are BakeMeCrazy home bakers knocking out delicious homestyle bakes with a little of our own BakeMeCrazy pizzazz! Based in the wonderful village of Porlock we aim to create delicious treats using locally sourced ingredients where we can. Since our launch in January of 2019 we have been beavering away to create a brand that is modern, fun and a little bit different, creating our own recipes with a nod to some classic bakes and finding a style of bake that would have Paul Hollywood offering a coveted handshake. We aim to please all our customers 100 per cent of the time and will work directly with them through concept and design to that all important first mouthful. 2019 has been a steep learning curve for the BakeMeCrazy crew juggling festivals, market stalls and country fairs in and around the west country and processing our orders for local stores but we wouldn’t have changed it for anything, 2020 will be a great year for BMC and we encourage you to come along for the journey, it will be crazy!

You’ve got Snail Mail!

Escargots have made it to Somerset.  We’re excited that Somerset Escargots have joined us for the 2020 Exmoor Food Fest. Hopefully you’ll be able to taste them at a number of restaurants taking part in the festival. But you could also try cooking them at home!

Here is what they have to say about themselves:

We’re Somerset Escargot and our mission is to make the South West snail central!  Think great quality, free range escargot used in innovative recipes.

It’s a fantastic ingredient for our modern diet – high in protein, low in carbs and with a low carbon footprint compared to other meat sources.

Escargot has been a popular food source in many countries for centuries.  It’s thought it was introduced to Britain, via Somerset by the Romans.  It was certainly popular in the 1960s, this little video is about the Miners Arms in Priddy, where ‘Mendip Wallfish’ was a very popular dish – escargot poached in cider, as well as with the traditional garlic butter.

We’re farming our Helix Aspersa Muller and Helix Aspersa Maxima on our small holding in West Buckland and in the near future we will also be producing escargot caviar – think adult popping candy, with a salty, earthy flavour!
