Welcome to The Martlet Inn in Langford Budville

The Martlet Inn in Langford Budville is a quintessential country dining pub complete with a beautiful flag-stone floor, roaring log burner and is fast earning a reputation for it’s locally sourced food specialising is sea-food and game.

The pub was given a new lease of life after the first lockdown when it was taken over by Jon & Millie Coward (also of The Bear in Wiveliscombe and the Lamb & Flag, Blagdon Hill).  The focus is very much on those elusive qualities that make a good pub a great one – you’ll receive and warm and friendly welcome along with professional and attentive service.  A bustling ambience, helped along by the many locals who pop in for a pint or two, provides the perfect back-drop to your visit. There is a choice of dining areas – from the beautiful glass dining room to a cosy table by the fire.

The kitchen is headed up by local chef Matt Dean who, along with his team, puts together seasonal menus always with a nod to the abundance of glorious produce on our doorstep including some of the plentiful game and sea-food that our area has to offer.

We’re delighted to be part of the Exmoor Food Festival 2022 and have a special menu running from Mondays to Saturday’s starting on Monday 31st January and running until Monday 28th February – to book please phone 01823 401330 and quote Exmoor Food Festival.  We are also excited to be running a Taste of Exmoor meal on Thursday 17th February, details TBC.

Welcome to La Petite Bouchée in Witheridge

Welcome to La Petite Bouchée, our multi-award winning French Brasserie located in rural heartlands of North Devon. We’re absolutely delighted to be taking part in our fourth Exmoor Food Festival this year and we’re already planning two fabulous menus to tempt you with from January 28th through to February 26th.

Our name translated literally means “small mouthful” but there is nothing small about La Petite Bouchée: our flavours are big and bold, and all of our ingredients are sourced within 12 miles of the restaurant or homegrown.

Life in the past 22 months like everyone else in hospitality has had its challenges, but we rose to the said challenge and created our TOGO brand offering boxes of restaurant quality food, diced, peeled chopped and prepped for you to simply heat, boil or baste in the comfort of your own home.

We’ll be running a FestivalTOGO box throughout the whole of February. Watch this space.

We’ll also be launching our brand new supper club MANGETOUT during the festival with a menu showcasing the best of Exmoor.

Just shortly before the pandemic we scooped a bronze award, against some pretty fierce competition in the Devon Tourism Awards and in spite of the pandemic we still managed to scoop our 5th Gold award from Taste of The West. You’ll also remember us from Hidden Restaurants with Michel Roux Jnr.

La Petite Bouchée is a unique dining experience, a hidden gem and if you’re looking for a taste of France using the finest Devon produce then we look forward to welcoming you during the festival.

Welcome to The Carlton, Ilfracombe

The Carlton is proud to be part of the Exmoor Food Fest 2022!

It’s been a long time coming, and we’re rather excited about the coming New Year. Hopefully, things will have calmed down for all of us, and we’ll be taking part in the Exmoor Food Fest! As lovers of great food, how can we not get excited about this event? After taking part in early 2020, and all of us missing out in 2021, we can’t wait to take part again and share our Food Fest menu with you all!

Exmoor Food Fest Background

This will be the sixth Exmoor Food Fest. The event has earned a reputation for turning the spotlight on some of the region’s finest eateries, while at the same time giving foodies in the area, and from beyond, an added incentive to get out there for a taste of Exmoor!

This incentive comes in the form of the Exmoor Food Fest discounts which run for the month and expose the palate to some of the more sublime tastes the area has to offer. The Carlton Hotel, Ilfracombe, is proud to be joining in this festival of food and will be bringing its own special menu components to the party, along with a selection of exclusive Exmoor Food Fest deals.

The Carlton Brasserie

The Carlton will call themselves a ‘Hotel with Provenance’; a gaze through the suppliers’ list will tell you just how important local ingredients are for the kitchen team. Free-range eggs, locally caught fish, locally reared meat, seasonal vegetables and ingredients all feature heavily on the menu.

The fish you will eat at The Brasserie, in Ilfracombe, will have been caught in the bay and landed by local fishing boats or, in the case of the plump tidal mussels on the menu, plucked from the bed of the Torridge, one of two arterial rivers which flow into the Atlantic via the North Devon coast.

Much of the meat that makes the plate in the Brasserie will have been Exmoor farmed (such as the pork), or at the very least come from a southwest farm with the highest of welfare standards (as is the case with the beef and the lamb). Meanwhile, the kitchen’s supply of staple vegetables comes from The Great Field, located in the nearby village of Braunton, which has been providing sustenance from its nutritious soil since the ninth century. With such quality and consistency, simplicity in the kitchen means celebrating the authentic tastes and full flavours of these basic ingredients. The provenance and local sourcing behind the Brasserie menu ensures the food talks for itself, while the stylish layout and pleasant surroundings of the restaurant, allows all diners and guests to relax in nothing but pleasant ambience.

The Carlton’s reputation for non-fussy adjustments to menu items, in order to accommodate diners with specific diets and allergies, is second to none. Mention to one of the team about any dietary requirements and they’ll be happy to help. The Carlton will ensure all diners are able to enjoy their meal at the Brasserie.

Welcome to the Farmers Arms, Combe Florey

Literally risen from the ashes after a fire destroyed the original building dating back to the 15th century in January 2017, the Farmers Arms in Coggins Lane in Combe Florey is now a busy traditional pub with a modern twist where great pride is taken in serving outstanding food.

Head Chef Ben Routley and his team pride themselves on utilising the best of what’s fresh and in season, from Beechridge Farm duck to local seafoods from the North Devon coast for their daily changing menus.

“We take beautiful local ingredients and use classic cooking skills to show them off as they deserve”, explains Ben.

A charcoal fired Josper oven in the kitchen is used for producing the most succulent steaks and fish dishes. Even the charcoal is produced by the Farmers Arms.

A Covid safe garden of thatch-covered tables with heaters for when the weather turns cold and an outside tiki-style bar provide a fabulous atmosphere. The popular wood fired pizza oven is in operation on Friday evenings and all day Saturdays.

The Farmers Arms is well-known for the variety of real ales and exclusively local ciders as well as an exciting range of lagers and craft beers. The wine list is also extensive.

A firm Exmoor Food Fest favourite, the Farmers Arms have played host to several foodie events such as the “Celebration of Beef” a few years ago when four guest chefs joined the Farmers Arms’ head chef to produce five courses involving beef – including the dessert.
