The Rest and Be Thankful Inn at Wheddon Cross

The Rest and Be Thankful Inn and restaurant in the centre of Wheddon Cross, the highest village on Exmoor.  The Inn originally a staging post for travellers on their way between Dunster and Dulverton, and you will still find a warm welcome, good food and extremely comfortable accommodation awaiting you there today, almost 200 years later.

Our restaurant has firmly established itself as the place to eat when visiting the moor, or to pop in for a light snack when out for a ramble. We take pride in our traditional home-cooked pub meals in the heart of Exmoor, using local produce in and around Wheddon Cross Exmoor whenever possible. Great care and attention is taken in the cooking and presentation of each dish.

We are offering the Exmoor Food Festival menu Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings (except Tuesday 14th February) 6pm – 9pm beginning the 2 February 2017.

The Bridge House in Bampton joins the Exmoor Food Fest

Bridge House in the historic town of Bampton has been a hostelry since the 1920s.
Nigel & Caroline Lamacraft took over Bridge House in 2013 having run the popular and busy “Avocet Café” in Topsham for 9 years. After an extensive refurbishment we re-opened Bridge House serving our “proper good food” all freshly prepared by chef owner Nigel in a relaxed atmosphere with Caroline welcoming you front of house.
We serve classic British dishes utilising the fantastic range of seasonal, quality ingredients this area has to offer. We make all our own bread, cakes, puddings, chutneys and preserves and enjoy foraging in the local countryside.
We are open for lunch and supper on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays with our frequently changing seasonal menu. At the weekend we open at 10am, so come and relax and read the newspapers with coffee & cake or brunch – lunch served from 12 or book for our popular Sunday roast lunch.
We serve a range of local bottled beers, ciders and a good choice of wines to accompany your food.
We have been closed for a few weeks in January/ February to carry out the next stage of our refurbishment, working on two en-suite letting rooms and will re-open on 16th February.

Lynmouth Bay Cafe joins the Exmoor Food Fest

It was almost a year ago that two good friends arrived in Lynmouth to take over the Lynmouth Bay Café. Although our backgrounds were very different we’d both decided that it was time for a complete change in our lives and a tearoom seemed a good idea.

We first saw it on a very grey, wet and cold day in January last year and since then we have always said that Lynmouth chose us – we loved it! The first year has been a steep learning curve for both of us but we’re still here and still good friends!

After a well needed break in January we have a mini refurbishment underway and now excited to be re-opening on Saturday 11th February and supporting the Exmoor Food Festival.

Here at the Lynmouth Bay Café we make our own cakes, scones, soups and savouries and where we can’t we use local suppliers.

As part of the Exmoor Food Festival we will be offering our range of Cream Teas, including our popular Exmoor Cream Tea, with 10% discount from 11th February to 22nd February. (Excluding Monday 20th when we will be closed)

Exmoor Food Fest 2017 gets off to a splendid start

A week ago, several award-winning chefs came together in the kitchen of the Luttrell Arms in Dunster to prepare an outstanding seven-course-meal marking the official launch of the 2017 Exmoor Food Fest.

Head chef Barrie Tucker was joined by Paul and Donna Berry (The Swan), Andrew Dixon (The Café at Porlock Weir), Olivier Certain (Clavelshay Barn) and Ellis Pannell (Pyne Arms).

Each course was perfectly matched with exclusive wines by Dirceu Vianna Junior MW, Wine Director at Enotria&Coe, who commented: “Congratulations for putting together such amazing event. It seems that everyone really enjoyed the excellent food and brilliant atmosphere.”

Nigel Way, owner of The Luttrell Arms Hotel, introduced each of the chefs as their courses were being served, said “The Guest Chef Dinner is a celebration of food and drink from across the region. We are happy to support the Exmoor Food Fest which provides a valuable platform for fine dining, and its success brings benefits not only to restaurants here in Dunster but to the economy of Exmoor.”

Elke Winzer said. “The launch of the Exmoor Food Fest 2017 at The Luttrell Arms Hotel was a great success, not least because of the untiring enthusiasm and support by the Luttrell’s team for the festival. 14th February will see the grand opening of the new Theatre Kitchen at The Beach. They’re so proud of their young chefs down at The Beach they don’t want to hide them behind closed doors. All restaurants participating in this year’s Exmoor Food Fest are eagerly awaiting your vote.  Choose your favourite dining experience, the best taste, ambience and service – and the Exmoor Chef of the Year and the Exmoor Host of the Year will be crowned on 27 March 2017 at an Awards Ceremony in Butlins.
