Somerset Restaurant of the Year 2018 DUENDE is open for bookings!


SOMERSET LIFE RESTAURANT OF THE YEAR 2018

Duende restaurant opened just over a year ago, and picked up Somerset Life’s Restaurant of the Year 2018 award in November, swiftly followed by Taste of the West Gold.

Chef patron Tim Zekki is passionate about freshly prepared, seasonal and local food – he was Gary Rhodes Local Food Hero on UKTV with his two London delis. He then went on to run highly successful Duende pop up restaurants around the Chilterns for four years until moving to Somerset to open Duende in Wiveliscombe.

Tim produces food that is fine in provenance, but unpretentious in style, in the quirky and relaxed atmosphere of a Georgian townhouse.

Tim will be a guest chef at the Exmoor Food Festival VIP launch at The Farmers Arms in Combe Florey on January 29.

Head Chef Olivier Certain is joining Duende in February, so just in time for the Exmoor Food Festival.

Olivier has been classically trained in France, including Michelin starred and 3 Rosette establishments. He started his career in the UK under Andrew Dixon (3 AA Rosettes) at Porlock Weir. Over the years Olivier has been Head Chef at Woods in Dulverton, Clavelshay Barn at North Petherton and The Swan in Bampton. He won Somerset Life’s Chef of the Year 2017 whilst at Clavelshay Barn.  

Together the two award-winning chefs plan to combine their differing skills and backgrounds to push creative boundaries at Duende and bring the West Country’s fantastic produce even more into focus.

The Farmers Arms in Combe Florey will host the #ExFF19 launch

The Farmers Arms in Combe Florey, which only recently opened after a devastating fire nearly two years ago, will host the VIP launch of the 2019 Exmoor Food Fest on 29 January 2019.

Chef Mike Griffiths has invited several local chefs to join him in preparing an Exmoor Tasting Menu for the occasion – more details about who these chefs are, what the menu will be and how to book will be available shortly.

Save the date: Tasting Dinner with Thomas Carr on 9 April 2018

We have exciting news:  Michelin starred chef Thomas Carr will be cooking a Tasting Dinner with the apprentices of The Beach Hotel in Minehead on Monday, 5 March.

In 2015, Thomas Carr started the very first Exmoor Food Fest off with a tasting dinner at West Somerset College in Minehead. Students at the College’s Combe Restaurant, who were joined in the kitchen not only by Thomas Carr, but also Michelin starred chef Mark Dodson, impressed guests with their delicious and well-presented courses.

Three years later, these students have moved on. Some of them are now working as chefs in local restaurants, amongst them Rosemary Overall who is now a chef at The Beach Hotel.

On 9 April, Thomas Carr will be cooking with Rosemary and the Beach apprentices.   The menu will be announced shortly.
